Interns!!!!

On Tues. and Thurs. we have a group out from Truman High School and The Big Picture school. The two groups collaboration will result in a phenomenal change to one of the greenbelts lesser used and lesser appealing trails. With their forces combined they will orchestrate the initial process for starting a project, compile a report with a map reference, apply for a grant, recruit other volunteers to help them with the restoration, and essentially learn and grow from the 'behind the scenes' segment of the exciting project that the nature consortium is apart of. Anyone is welcome to jump aboard on these days, the group meets from about 10am-2pm at our 14th and holly site. Here are some pictures from what they've done so far!

Writing up the proposal, material needs, plan of action, report, digitalizing map, identifying invasive and native species in their project area... all this and MORE!

Here they restored a trench so that water can easily flow down hill and transfer as a resource to other plants. It also aids with erosion control.
Before

They maintained 220 sq.ft. then sheet mulched it as well. We made sure to put the dead wood back that we found so that the rotting wood can still contribute to decomposition. It also provides homes for animals and bugs, it adds nutrients to the soil, and is quite festive.

I am glad that we are back out there!

It has been pretty boring hanging out at school during
non-internship days! By the way i do plan on comming out on saturdays allot more often, so I'll see you out there!
